The WIDA is a big part of ESL instruction unfortunately. While teachers do not want to spend the majority of instruction time teaching to a test, it is important to help students feel less anxious and more prepared about this exam. The website for WIDA is a helpful tool to educators and students because it help gives valuable information and practice problems for students to get more acquainted with this form of testing. The SIOP strategy is an important part of an ESL classroom and it can really help a student succeed in the classroom. The video above acts as a resource for teachers because it explains the connection between SIOP and the WIDA exam, which is an important test that ESL students must pass to pass out of ESL instruction. It is helpful to understand how the SIOP method and WIDA work together so that teachers can better prepare their students for the WIDA. The video below explains the SIOP model and gives an example of how to implement it, which is an important strategy for teachers to use in the classroom.
Another good tool for ESL educators, podcasts because they give valuable information and tips to educators while being able to do something else at the same time like drive, clean up the classroom, or writing lesson plans. Instead of having to focus energy on reading articles that can be 20 pages long, teachers can simply listen to a podcast with just as valuable of information. Podcasts are also a good tool to use in the classroom as comprehensible input allowing students to listen and write or discuss the podcast. I've included two links below, one for teachers to listen to, and then another podcast that students could listen to as comprehensible input.
